Take Action and DoSomething.org Announce NYC Charity Event
Uncategorized — By melissa on February 17, 2009
The 2009 SUB CITY TAKE ACTION TOUR, PRESENTED BY F.Y.E., kicked off last Wednesday in Sauget, IL! The 2009 lineup features headliner CUTE IS WHAT WE AIM FOR, along with BREATHE CAROLINA, MEG & DIA, EVERY AVENUE, and ANARBOR. The annual nationwide charity tour, now in its eighth year, raises funds and awareness for youth involvement in charitable action. For the second straight year Take Action has chosen not-for-profit organization DoSomething.org to benefit from the funds raised and to help spread the message of action to young people across the country. DoSomething.org is a national not-for-profit that believes that young people have the power to make a difference. They inspire, empower and celebrate a generation of doers: young people who recognize the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action.
In an effort to make a difference throughout the tour, Take Action along with DoSomething.org have organized a series of charity events that will allow both bands and fans to participate. The first of the events will take place in New York City on February 19th from 4-6pm and will benefit the Teens for Jeans campaign. The event will feature a very special meet & greet with all the 2009 Take Action Tour artists as well as an acoustic performance from headliner Cute Is What We Aim For. In order to gain entrance and the address to this special event, fans will need to RSVP to the below email (space is limited) and also bring a pair of gently worn jeans to donate. Take Action and DoSomething.org will make sure the jeans get donated to a local teen shelter or charity. Teens for Jeans is a national campaign, launched by Aéropostale and Do Something, empowering young people to collect jeans for homeless teens. Details on the additional charity events will be available soon.

The charitable tour coincides with the annual Take Action benefit compilation that releases today! The CD/DVD compilation will be available on tour and in stores and will include unreleased tracks from Meg & Dia, The Spill Canvas, and Four Year Strong, as well as unreleased videos from Rise Against and All Time Low. 5% of the suggested retail price for each Take Action! Volume 8 unit sold is donated to DoSomething.org.
To date, Sub City- a registered 501c3 organization, has raised over $1.5 million for various charitable organizations; much of that a result of Take Action. Proving to music fans that yes, we can help bring forth change, making a difference can be as fun and easy as buying a concert ticket or a CD/DVD.
